A Project in Claude is a workspace that holds shared context — documents, instructions, and a running set of chats — so everything inside it already knows the background. If you keep re-explaining the same situation, a Project is the fix.
What to put in the knowledge
Add the reference material the work keeps needing: a style guide, key documents, a glossary of your internal terms. Claude can draw on these across every conversation in the Project without you pasting them in again.
Set custom instructions for the Project
Each Project can carry its own standing instructions — the role to play, the tone, the things to always or never do. This is where “write in our house style, British spelling, no jargon” lives, applied to every chat in that Project.
Keep Projects focused
One Project per genuine workstream beats one giant Project for everything. Tight, relevant context produces sharper answers; a kitchen-sink Project dilutes them — the same context-window logic that applies inside a single chat.
A good Project means your first message can be the actual question, not three paragraphs of setup.
